ITの旗手に教育者は学ぶべき

Steve Jobsの数ある名言の中でも刻印されるべきは2005年6月12日Stanford Universityでの祝辞における次の一節だろう。

“Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma--which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and institution. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.”(諸君の時間は限られている。誰か他者の人生を生きることで時間を無駄にしてはならない。教条主義の罠にはまってはならない。教条主義とは他者の思考の結果に従って生きることだ。他者の意見という雑音に自分自身の内なる声をかき消されるべきではない。最も重要なことは、自分の心と直感に従う勇気を持つこと。心と直感は本当になりたい自分というものをなぜか既に知っているからだ）
もう一方のIT界の旗手、Bill GatesはS.Jobsの死を悼んだ--

“Steve and I first met nearly 30 years ago, and have been colleagues, competitors and friends over the course of more than half our lives. The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come. For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it's been an insanely great honor.”(スティーブと私が出合ったのは30年ほど前だった。その後の人生の半分以上の歳月にわたり互いに同僚であり、競争相手であり、友人だった。スティーブの成し遂げたような深淵なインパクトを世界が目にすることは稀だ。その影響は今後数世代にも亘り続くだろう。彼と働くことができた私たちは幸運だった。それは本当に大きな誇りだ）


B. GatesはS.Jobsと同じ年、55年の生まれだ。時として物議を醸す発言が見られたSteveと異なり、Billの言葉は穏やかのようで鋭い。


某高校で生徒に向かって『学校で教えてくれない人生に役立つ11のルール』を語っている。例えば---
“If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you met a boss”
(先生が厳しすぎると思うなら、上司を持つことだ）
“Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they abolished falling grades and they'll give you MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. They doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.”
(学校は勝者・敗者を決めなくなったかも知れないが、人生は違う。学校によっては君が落ちこぼれないないようにしてくれたり、正しい答えが導き出せるまで何度でも機会をくれる。実際の人生とは全く似ても似つかない）

こんにちの学校教育者にとって肝に銘ずべしだ。
