傾聴と質問と読み解き

米国の高校で生徒・保護者に学校生活の心得(Parent-Student Handbook)が渡される。その中のStudy Guideに『成功のための戦略』(Strategies For Success)が列挙されている。
その第１は“Listen Well”「傾聴力」。次の4指針を掲げている。
◇Concentrate on what's being said and tune out other noise.
--話しの内容に集中し、他の雑音はシャットアウトするべし--
◇If it isn't clear, ask questions.
--不明な場合は質問すべし--
◇Be alert to the feelings and style of the speaker.
--話し手の感情と話し方を抜かりなく把握すべし--
◇Listen for the meanings and ideas behind the actual words.
--表向きの言葉の裏に隠された意味と考えを読み取るべし--
上の戦略は、日本の若者たちの指導にも通用する。併せて、後半の２つのポイントはメディア・リテラシーを解く場合にも有効だ。
