DNC 2012--②--Jennifer Granholm Speech--痛快で炎の如き6分30秒のパフォーマンス

“Good evening”で始まった前Michigan州知事Jennifer Granholmのスピーチ。
度肝を抜かれ、まともなメディアのHeadlineはこんな調子だ--

Former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm delivered a spectacularly theatrical, spectacularly loud attack Mitt Romney.
Michigan州は米自動車産業の拠点。Granholm女史が州知事任期最後の年に、WixsonにあるFord最大の工場が閉鎖に追い込まれた。工場ではそれまで地元から男女数千人に及ぶmiddle classの労働者を雇っていた。工場はまるでもぬけの殻になった。“So, governor, is it over for us? Is American auto industry dead?” 州知事には答えようがない。ただ解ったことは、財政危機の始まりだということ。事態は悪化の一途を辿っていった。
自動車産業全体が、そしてそこに働く100万人以上のアメリカの労働者たちが破産の淵にあった。
MichiganのFord工場の街で育ち、最悪の状況を知るはずのMitt Romneyはどうしていたか？　2009年救世主Barack Obamaが登場した。早速レスキュー部隊を組織し、米自動車産業の救済策を打ち出した。同じ危機を目にしていたRomneyが言ったセリフは-“Let Detroit go bankrupt.”彼は大の車好き。それも、エレベーター付きだ。車を作り、セールスを行なっているのは誰なのか？

“Well, in Romney's world, the cars get the elevator, the workers get shaft. Mitt Romney says his business experience qualifies him to be president.. Sure, he'made lots of money. Good to him. But how did he make fortune, and at whose expense”--「人よりも金を大事にしてきた」Romneyの世界を痛烈に皮肉る。
Granholのスピーチは自動車産業界の再建がトピックスだったため、出てくる表現も“who took the wheel? / who gave us a lift? / who jump-started the engine? / who got rolling again on the road to recovery?”と自動車関連の表現を絡めてBarack Obamaの実績を語る。
Twitterの中には、Granholmを“ダイエット・ピルの飲み過ぎ”とか“アル中か麻薬中毒”などと酷評するものもみられたが、ボクが共鳴するコメントは次の三つだ。

hitting speech, tell them to watch video of Jennifer Granholm tonite.
●......jokingly referenced her speech alongside Martin Luther Kin
Jr.'s march to Washington.
●I think its time we had a Female President, in 2016, I vote for
Jennifer Granholm.

７分足らずのスピーチの最後をGranholm女史は、GOPとRomneyに対する強烈な皮肉にみちた痛打で締め括った。
“America, let's rev our engines! in your car and on your ballot, the 'D' is for drive forward, and the 'R' is for reverse.”
DはDemocrat、RはRepublicanだ。
